The Annapolis Valley Regional School Board will lose about one full-time equivalent teacher for September. A preliminary staff allocation plan recommended cutting about 35 positions, but subsequent work and additional funding saw about 33 positions added. Retirements and resignations will absorb the net loss.

Empire to make cuts to help Sobeys recover
Empire has launched a $500 million cost-cutting plan to help Sobeys, which began struggling after buying the western grocery chain Safeway four years ago. The Stellarton-based parent company says cutting back office staff is one way it’ll happen, but frontline and distribution-centre staff won’t be affected.
