NB Tories speak out against carbon tax proposal

The New Brunswick Tories want the 2018 provincial election to be fought partially over a looming tax on carbon.

Leader Blaine Higgs adds that New Brunswick needs a government with the backbone to face off against the federal liberals scheme for a nation-wide carbon tax.

The Tories don’t feel that a carbon tax is necessary in order to meet emission targets.

Higgs pointed out that a carbon tax would hurt the economy.

A price on carbon could end up costing NB Power millions of dollars a year as they are the owners of high-emitting power plants, that cost would be passed down to customers by higher rates.
