River Watch NB

The River Watch Program is now in effect.

It’s run by the provincial government to keep an eye on New Brunswick rivers at the risk of overflowing, due to ice jams; as the weather warms up.

Sussex and Sussex Corner were badly flooded in April of 2014 when Trout Creek, a tributary of the Kennebecasis River; overflowed its banks.

River Watch says there are, at the moment; four ice jams that could cause problems.

They are the Kennebecasis River between Bloomfield and Apohaqui, the St. John River below Florenceville/Bristol; the Hammond River between Smithtown and French Village, and the Tobique River north of Plaster Rock near Everett.

Ice hut removal deadline

Fishermen in the northern part of New Brunswick have until March 20th to get their ice fishing sheds off the ice, the previous deadline was March 31st.

The most popular ice fishing areas are in the Richardsville section of Campbellton, Shaw’s Cove in Dalhousie Junction; and beside the marina in Dalhousie.

Failure to remove an ice fishing shack could result in a six hundred dollar fine.
