NS drunk case

A judge has rejected a joint recommendation by the Crown and defence for the sentence of a drunk driver.

Gordon Lewis MacDonald pleaded guilty to driving with a blood alcohol level over the limit.  He had a previous conviction in 2009.  Despite that,  the crown and defence recommended two years probation and one day in jail to be served by his appearance in court.

Judge Alain Bégin called the recommendation a farce and if he accepted it the accused would walk out of the courtroom laughing.  So he adjourned sentencing until the 20th.

The Apple Blossom Parade will be held in Kentville after all, this year.

The Town and Festival issued a joint release saying they had reached agreement to keep the parade where it’s been for almost all of its history.  It said were happy to rediscover clarity and understanding about the support from the Town of Kentville in hosting the event.

Kentville CAO Mark Phillips said this is open communication and mutual interest for the greater success of the parade and festival by all parties.
