Province announces plan for aging population

The province is committing $13.6 million over three years to SHIFT: Nova Scotia’s Action Plan for an Aging Population.  Premier Stephen McNeil says it will ensure our communities benefit from the knowledge, skills and experiences of older Nova Scotians.  The plan has more than 50 specific actions, and received input from hundreds of Nova Scotians in its development.  Learn more at www.novascotia.ca/shift.

College of Paramedics comes into effect on Saturday

The College of Paramedics will come into effect on Saturday, making paramedicine a self-regulated profession in Nova Scotia.  The college will oversee more than 1400 paramedics, and joins 21 other provincial health professions that are self-regulated.  The McNeil government has provided a $350,000 subsidy to get it started, with membership dues financing it going forward.
