Former Mounty fighting charges

A Moncton Mountie is trying to have two impaired driving charges thrown out becauyse they took too long to go to trial, according to CBC.

Retired Sgt. Ronald Cleveland was found guilty June 2nd of impaired driving and driving with a blood alcohol level over the limit after he was stopped in Dieppe in 2014.

His lawyer argued in court yesterday Cleveland’s right to a timely trial was violated because 38 months passed between the charges being laiod and the trial. The judge reserved decision until July 7th.
