WW I Soldier

The remains of a St. Stephen, New Brunswick, man who died while fighting in France have been identified and he’s to be given a proper military burial.

Sergeant Harold Wilfred Shaughnessy was found near the village of Vendin-le-Vieil _ at the site where the battle for Hill 70 took place in August 1917.

He was identified using historical records, an identifying disc and D-N-A tests.

Born in 1884 in St. Stephen, Shaughnessy’s name is on a war memorial in the community.
