Two women’s groups have been granted intervenor status in the appeal of taxi driver’s acquittal on sexual assault charges. The Nova Scotia Supreme Court says it will hear from Avalon Sexual Assault Centre and the Women’s Legal Education and Action Fund when it hears the appeal of Bassam Al-Rawi’s acquittal. Al-Rawi was found with a partially naked passed out women in his taxi but a judge found Al Rawi not guilty of sexual assault earlier this year. The acquittal sparked a national outcry. The Crown appealed the decision and the case will be heard by the Supreme Court this November.
