Halifax to Make Annual Payment to British Crown for Point Pleasant Park

Halifax Regional Municipality will pay the British Crown the equivalent of a shilling to renew its lease on Point Pleasant Park today. Since 1866, the city has paid an annual rent of a British shilling — about eight cents by today’s standards — for ongoing use of the park. Deputy Mayor Steve Craig will represent the municipality at the symbolic ceremony at Point Pleasant Park today. Craig will present the shilling to Nova Scotia
Lieutenant-Government J-J Grant.
