Cornwallis debate

Halifax will again discuss what to do about sites named for Edward Cornwallis, the city’s controversial founder.

For years, critics have complained that parks, buildings and streets should not honour Cornwallis because he once issued a bounty on the scalps of Mi’kmaq men, women and children.

Council voted narrowly last May against debating the issue.

But rookie councillor Shawn Cleary gave notice he plans to revive the issue at the next council meeting.
