Glace Bay Bayplex Closing for up to Two Years

The Glace Bay Bayplex is closing, possibly for the next two years. The arena that’s home to minor hockey and other activities in Glace Bay has been plagued with problems since it opened 21 years ago. CBRM Mayor Cecil Clark tells the Cape Breton Post the facility has been deemed unsafe and in need of a 6-million-dollar retrofit. The municipality and the Bayplex board of directors also have to come up with an operating plan for the Bayplex which currently has a 127-thousand-dollar unpaid power bill and other operating debts. In the meantime Glace Bay minor hockey will move to the Canada Games Complex .

Acadia Receives Federal Funding for Pesticide Alternatives

Acadia University is receiving 3-million dollars in federal funding to continue research on developing greener pest control methods. The announcement of funding through ACOA was made this week by Catherine McKenna, the federal Minister of the Environment. The money will go towards continued research and commercialization efforts of alternative pest controls solutions with aim of reducing our dependence on harmful pesticides.
