Province stepping in to help end strike at Chronicle Herald

The province will start a commission to help end the Chronicle Herald strike.  Halifax Typographical Union employees have been on strike since January 2016, and multiple talks between it and the paper haven’t brought a resolution.  There are 53 newsroom employees left striking, and the province’s announcement comes after it initially rejected several calls to intervene.

Gaming industry profits up

Gaming industry profits are up 2.3% in Nova Scotia.  A new government report says the Provincial Lotteries and Casino Corporation paid it $144.6 million in 2016-17, up from $141.4 million the previous fiscal year.  $6.6 million is being put into prevention, education and treatment of problem gambling.
