A complaint over a foul smell led to the arrest of a Kentville man and the discovery of a Crystal Meth Lab on Friday. Kentville Police and Fire department received a complaint about the odour from the owner of the North End Market Building on Mee Road around 8:30 pm. Police discovered drug production activity and toxic chemicals in the basement and evacuated the building. Specialized units of the RCMP and a Hazmat unit were called in to assist at the scene, which saw a heavy police presence well into Saturday. A 22-year-old Kentville man has been charged with unlawfully producing methamphetamine and remains in custody. He’s scheduled to appear in court tomorrow.

Former Navy Vessel Catches Fire at Scrapyard
A former Canadian Navy vessel continues to cause problems at the scrap yard where it’s being demolished. For the third time in less than a year the remains of the HMCS Protecteur caught fire at the Port Mersey Commercial Park on Friday. Kings County News reports it took two and half hours to extinguish the blaze, which is being blamed on residual fuel in the hull.
