Highway 125 incident update

The family of the hit and run victim say Jackie Deveau had moved home after serving in the military, and suffered from P-T-S-D.

The 54 year old Cheticamp man died after being hit on Highway 125 Saturday night.

His sister, Ida LeLievre; says for the person that hit him to just drive away adds to the pain.  She also said Deveau went to the Cape Breton Hospital for treatment last Thursday but she doesn’t know how he ended up on the highway trying to stop cars.  LeLievre is critical of the federal government because of its responsibility to help people suffering from PTSD.

The Nova Scotia Health Authority refuses to comment, citing privacy concerns.

CBRM food program

Three community groups in C-B-R-M are teaming up to deliver groceries, meals and nutritional advice to seniors.

Funding was announced yesterday by the provincial government for an eight-week pilot project called Friendly Food Box.  The government is providing $9,400 under its Age Friendly program, which supports community groups that enhance the social and economic contributions of seniors.  The food box project was developed by the Ecology Action Centre, New Dawn Meals on Wheels and the Pan-Cape Breton Food Hub.
