Halifax is set to celebrate the first anniversary of the donair being declared the city’s official food. An event will be held Dec. 8 to raise money for charitable organizations. Last year Halifax became the first city in Canada to have an official food. Local shop King of Donair is encouraging vendors of the food to pay tribute and support a cause of their choice. On Dec. 8, between 4 p.m. and 7 p.m., the shop on Quinpool Road will sell donairs by donation, giving the money to Hope Blooms.

Cape Breton Kids and Cops Shop Together for Christmas
Some kids went Christmas shopping at the Mayflower Mall with the help of Cape Breton Regional Police officers. The 48 elementary students from various schools were paired with officers to help them spend $300 each on gifts. The money came from the Mayflower Mall and local businessmen Joe Anthony of A&L Seafoods, Jim Kennedy of Louisbourg Seafood Limited and John Wilcox of Argen Fisheries. Sportcheck also provided each student with a new winter jacket. The police were happy to see the kids spending their money on gifts for other people and not themselves.
