Former Deputy Minister of Justice Accused of Stealing from Clients

New Brunswick’s former Deputy Minister of Justice has been accused of stealing more than 740,000 from clients of his private law practice. The Law Society of New Brunswick alleges Yassin Choukri misappropriated funds from 10 clients between 2010 and 2016. Incidents include reaching a 150,000-dollar insurance claim settlement on behalf a woman over a car accident – and a 250,000-dollar settlement on behalf of a company who suffered loses in a Bathurst fire. In both those cases Choukri’s clients never received the settlement money. Choukri was once a law partner in former premier Bernard Lord’s law firm and served as Deputy Minister of Justice during Lord’s time in office between 2003 and 2006.
