NB major league dreams

Andrew Case of Saint John is getting closer to his dream of becoming a major league baseball pitcher.

He recently got a call from his manager with the Single-A Dunedin Blue Jays that he would be getting promoted to the Double-A New Hampshire Fisher Cats.

In 15 and a third innings with the Fisher Cats, he’s 4-and oh; with a 1.76 earned-run average, holding opponents to a mere .193 batting average against.

His next step would be the Triple-A Buffalo Bisons.

NB awards

A pair of New Brunswickers were in Ottawa to get medals for their outstanding indigenous leadership.

Percy Sacobie got the Meritorious Service Medal for his efforts to help people on the road to recovery from addictions and mental illness by building a sweat lodge on St. Mary’s First Nation.

Imelda Perley was honoured with the Sovereign’s Medal for Volunteers.

Perley, UNB’s elder in residence; and a teacher, devoted much of her time to teaching language, storytelling and other traditions in indigenous communities.
