Rotting statues to be removed

Three wooden statues on the waterfront are rotting and will be removed soon.

The statues honour noted Acadians from Saint John’s past, including Charles de La Tour, his heroic wife, Françoise-Marie Jacquelin, and his rival Charles D’Aulnay.

The chainsaw carved statues are the work of Albert Deveau who carved them in the 1990s. But since they are wood, they have deteriorated and become a safety hazard…so the city says they will be removed. No word on replacements
