Lepreau hearings

Hearings opened yesterday by the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission on a new five year license for Pt. Lepreau.

Some of the commissioners were surprised when they were told the City of Saint John does not have an evacuation plan specific to an emergency at the nuclear power plant, according to CBC.

Fire Chief Kevin Clifford told the commission it’s been years since they discussed it. He did say however, the city does have plans for a full or partial evacuation, but they are not specifically about an emergency at Lepreau.
