Canada Day – Ottawa

A huge crowd is gathering in Ottawa mark Canada’s 150th birthday.

Officials have been preparing for months. Much of downtown Ottawa has been closed to vehicles, and security barriers have been set up around Parliament Hill.

About half-a-million people are expected and the government says it will be the biggest Canada Day celebration in the country’s history.

Canada Day – Saint John

Canada Day events in Saint John can be found online at at sjcanadaday.ca.

They include the Mayor’s Cup Skateboard Competition at 10:00am at Station One Skateboard Park. Mayor Don Darling will also preside over a re-enactment of a Pie Powder court, a special ceremony at fairs or markets that dates back to 18th century England.

The Canada Day Parade will leave from King’s Square at 11:15 a.m.

The Sand Sculptures event at New River Beach has been postopned until tomorrow because of the weather and will start half an hour later.

The Saint John City Market is open from 9:00am to 4:00pm today and will be closed Monday.

Saint John Transit is running its buses free all day on holiday schedules. There’s no Comex service.
