Dalhousie being sued over student’s death

Dalhousie University is being sued by the parents of a Chinese student who died of alcohol poisoning in a residence.

Peter Shang and Weihong Bai of China filed a statement of claim last week against the University, four other students and McKesson Canada Corp which operates the medical help line 8-1-1, according to Local Xpress.

The parents allege they were negligent in the death of 19 year old Melody Shang who died after drinking vodka, getting sick and passing out in a university residence in November last year.

None of the allegations has been proven in court.

Boston Xmas tree ready to go

This year’s Christmas tree for Boston was cut down yesterday in Ainslie Glen.

The tree is the first from Cape Breton to be sent to Boston in thanks for its help after the 1917 Halifax Explosion. The sendoff is this morning at the Grand Parade.

This year the tree will already have some decorations on it.  Principal John Bernard, of the elementary school in Whycocomagh, says his grade 3  students have been studying the Halifax explosion in Social Studies and they decided to send 24 glass balls along with the tree which have their cultural symbols painted on them.
