Sentence handed down in double murder

A Truro area man has been sentenced for killing his commin-law wife and her daughter three years ago.

50 year old Gerald Rushton, of Valley, was given life with no parole for 18 years for second degree murder. He pleaded guilty to beating 24 year old Brittany MacPherson to death with a baseball bat in their home just after Christmas of 2013 then he beat 54 year old Elizabeth MacPherson to death with a hammer when she got home from work. He then tried to committ suicide.

Pastor’s trial in Kentville continues

The trial of a prominent Toronto Pastor on sex charges continues in Kentville court.

The alleged victim testified yesterday saying he remembers Reverand Brent Hawkes leading him naked down a hall to a bedroom at Hawkes trailer in Greenwood and then forcing himself on the teen who was under 18 at the time…and can’t be named. Hawkes is on trial on charges of gross indency and indecent assault.

The man testified his memory of some of the events that night at a drinking party with other teens was fuzzy but very clear on others.
