Cabinet minister’s husband charged

The husband of Immigration Minister Lena Diab has been charged with assaulting her.

Maroun Diab was in court yesterday on various charges including assault and uttering threats. His wife was listed as one of three victims in the incident New Year’s Eve in the couple’s Halifax home.

Lena Diab and the Premier’s office are not commenting saying it’s a private matter.

Fire bombing update

Police continue to investigate the fire bombing of a house in the west end early yesterday morning.

A witness told police she saw a man toss a molotov cocktail at a house on Chebucto Road then jump in a white car and race away. A couple and their two children got out unharmed but there was considerable damage to the house. Police are not releasing any other details of the case.
