Fish kill update

Human activity has been ruled out as a cause of the fish kill in St. Mary’s Bay. D-F-O also says it appears the die-off is subsiding.

Tens of thousands of dead herring started washing ashore in late November then other sea life last month…but officials say it started to wind down just before the holidays.

The scientists say they may never know why the herring died…all sorts of testing has proven inconclusive. They also say the fresh fish from the bay are safe to eat.

The SPCA issued a release saying 35 year old Candice Burneau has been charged with wilfully causing unnecessary suffering or injury to the puppies in relation to an incident December 29th. She’ll be in court March 8th.
