Police to do more study on street checks

Halifax police say more study is needed to determine why visible minorities, particularly blacks, are overrepresented in street check data.

Data was released by the force after a Freedom of Information request by the CBC.  As a result of that, the force went over data dating back even further and found blacks were stopped on the street and checked by officers about three times more than their percentage of the population. The Department says it’s conducting a deeper analysis of the data to determine what’s behind the disproportionality.

Grounded tanker still grounded

That small tanker is still grounded off Sydney Mines.

A salvage team couldn’t pull it off the sandy bottom at high tide last night because they couldn’t remove enough ballast water to increase the Arca 1’s bouyancy enough. The Coast Guard says it continues to monitor the situation…and there has been no sign of pollution. The tanker is carrying 15 tonnes of fuel for its engines.
