Little Pond recovery effort

Efforts to haul the Agra 1 off the bottom off Little Pond have been delayed until the weekend.

The Salvage company is bringing in a larger and more powerful tug.  It’s also putting more pumps aboard to get rid of water in the ballast tanks and lighten ship.

Transportation Minister Geoff MacLellan is satisfied that the salvage operation is going as smoothly as possible, although he admits the longer the small tanker sits there the more opportunity there is for a catastrophe.

Another Pictou County appeal

Another appeal is being filed in the case of a former Pictou County teacher on her conviction on sex-related charges involving two former Grade six students.  Carolyn Amy Hood was given a 15 month conditional sentence with house arrest.

The defence tried to have her declared not criminaly responsible because of bipolar disease but the judge rejected that.  Her lawyers are appealing the judge’s treatment of expert evidence.

The Crown indicated earlier this week it is also appealing the house arrest sentence saying Hood should spend at least two years in jail.
