NS teachers update

Teachers got their first look at the tentative contract worked out last week, and the CBC reports the response has been lukewarm at best.

It’s worth an extra $60 million over four years, and the union executive is telling members it was the best deal available.

Teachers have voted against two previous tentative contracts recommendated by the executive.

The vote on this one will be February 8th.

Go-ahead given for pipeline

President Donald Trump has approved two pipeline projects, and environmentalists are promising a fight.

The orders allow for construction of TransCanada’s Keystone X-L pipeline and the Dakota Access pipeline.

Years of pressure by opponents forced President Barack Obama to freeze the pipeline.
