The Court of Appeal has over turned the second degree murder conviction of a Saint John man and ordered a new trial.
CBC reports Frederick Cormier Jr. was found guilty in the stabbing death of Spencer Eldridge in 2014 in a fight outside a house on Lancaster Avenue. He was sentenced to life with no parole for 10 years.
The Court of Appeal set aside the conviction yesterday but hasn’t released reasons yet. Cormier claimed self-defence although his lawyer didn’t call any witnesses.
A man is facing charges and three young men in Rothesay are being hailed as heroes, according to CBC.
18 year old Brandon Childs, 19 year old Keith Bishop and 21 year old Erik Pitre stepped in to stop a woman from being assaulted behind a business on Hampton Road. They told CBC they were working at KV Rentals when they noticed a man and woman in an altercation in nearby woods. They rushed over and surronded the woman, who was badly beaten, forcing the suspect to ran away.
45 year old Christopher Albert Belyea, of Saint John, was in court yesterday on charges of assault and possession of marijuanna. He was remanded in custody until a bail hearing March 13th.
