A fire damaged an apartment building on Herring Cove Road in Halifax on Saturday. Firefighters arrived on the scene around 3pm and quickly extinguished the blaze on the top floor of the three storey building. No one was injured. There’s been no word on the extent of the damage and the cause of the fire is still under investigation.

Lockdown Ends at Springhill Prison
A lockdown at the Springhill Institution has been lifted. The prison was placed in lockdown on Monday after a pair of correctional officers were assaulted. The incident had forced prisoners to remain in their cells all week and visitors were also barred from the institution. Correctional Service Canada says 19 inmates were involved in the incident. One inmate was treated in hospital before returning to the prison. The correctional officers who were assaulted suffered only minor injuries.
