New RCMP headquarters

Moncton City Council is requesting proposals for a new Codiac RCMP headquarters to cost about $45 million. But one councillor is opposed…and he’s a former police officer who used to work in the present building.

Bryan Butler agrees the present headquarters is old, worn out and needs to be replaced. But he says the plan for a headquarters of over 64,000 square feet is too big. Butler says the people there deserve a new building, but from a councillor’s perspective, he’s a gatekeeper of the taxpayer’s dollar…and the current plans are too much.  The current building on Main Street is 40,000 square feet.
