Guilty Verdict in Murder of Moncton Teen

A jury on Friday delivered a guilty verdict against 19-year-old Devin Morningstar in the murder of 18-year-old Baylee Wylie. Wylie’s body was discovered by firefighters responding to a blaze at an apartment ion Sumac Street in Moncton in December of 2015. 19-year-old Devin Morningstar was being tried on first degree murder and arson charges and the jury delivered a guilty verdict on all charges shortly after 2pm on Friday after three days of deliberations. Wylie had been beaten and stabbed more than a hundred times before the apartment was set on fire. Morningstar’s first degree murder verdict carries an automatic life sentence with no chance of parole for 25 years. He will be sentenced on January 11th. Marissa Sheppard and Tyler Noel are also facing first degree murder charges in Wylie’s death but their trials aren’t expected to begin until later next year.

Parking Lot to Close at Moncton Hospital

The P2 parking lot at the corner of Providence Street and University Avenue in Moncton, serving the Dumont University Hospital; will close next Friday. It will be shut down until the summer of 2018 to allow the construction of a new health facility. To help compensate for the loss of parking, some additional spaces will be available in the lot at the corner of Mountain Road and University Avenue.
