Ottawa fights fentanyl crisis

Ottawa plans to make it easier to set up supervised drug injection sites. At the same time, it’s cracking down on illegal shipments of fentanyl and restricting the importation of equipment used to make pills and capsules.

Health Minister Jane Philpott says this is a public-health approach to the drug control strategy. She says the deadly opioid and fentanyl crisis is a national problem, although it’s especially bad out west.

Trump picks controversial Secretary of State

President-elect Donald Trump is ready to nominate a major oil executive as his Secretary of State.

Trump has apparently picked Exxon Mobil C-E-O Rex Tillerson to head up foreign relations…but the nomination may hit a snag in Senate confirmation hearings. Tillerson has close ties with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
