Gaspé Mi’gmaq communities drop lawsuit over proposed Chaleur Terminals project

Three Gaspé Mi’gmaq communities have dropped a federal lawsuit aimed at stopping Chaleur Terminals’ oil-by-rail project.  They believe it threatens their traditional lands and waters, and the Tribune reports their opposition will continue in other ways.  The project would have two trains bring oil to the Port of Belledune daily, where it would be stored before being shipped out to sea.

Miramichi Airport sees less flights year-over-year

The Miramichi Airport has seen a lot less business year-over-year.  Stats Can’s latest numbers have 90 takeoffs or landings for January, where there were 344 in January 2016.  Board member Hal Somers told CBC the downturn out west has been part of it, as charters from oil companies used to regularly happen.
