A cyclist from Port Hawkesbury died in fatal crash that forced the closure of the Canso Causeway on Saturday. RCMP say the 57-year-old man was struck by a truck near the causeway entrance in Auld’s Cove shortly before 3pm. He died at the scene. The causeway remained closed until roughly 9pm last night as police investigated the cause of the crash.

Fatal Crash Closes Canso Causeway
A serious crash killed a man from Port Hawkesbury and closed the Canso Causeway on Saturday. The accident reportedly happened around 3pm near the weigh station on the mainland side. The causeway remained closed well into Saturday evening with RCMP expecting to reopen the crossing to one lane of traffic around 9pm. Fire Halls on both sides of the causeway were opened to feed and warm-up stranded travellers. Apart from confirming the fatality of a man from Port Hawkesbury – the RCMP have not released any other details about the crash.
