Yarmouth fire fighters hindered by crowds

An unoccupied home was destroyed by flames in Yarmouth last night, but fire fighers managed to save nearby houses despite gawking crowds getting in the way.

Yarmouth Fire Chief John Verrall told The Vanguard amazing fire fighting saved the buildings because his crews had trouble getting to the fire because of cars parked along the street by onlookers.  His trucks couldn’t get to hydrants.  Cars ran over hoses.  Verrall said people have to stay away from fire scenes.  Nobody was hurt.

Camp Mockingee cash

Just over $82,000 in federal funding from the taxpayers has been announced to help the Rotary Club of Windsor improve Camp Mockingee.  Renovations and repairs will happen to the kitchen/dining building and deck, accessible washrooms and showers, and walkways and roofs.  The province and Rotary Club itself are also putting in money.
