Police to Join Cape Breton Pride Parade

Police officers will be taking part in this year’s Cape Breton Pride parade. There’s been an issue of police in uniforms marching in Pride parades elsewhere in Canada – Including the region’s largest parade in Halifax. Pride Cape Breton co-chair Patrick MacNeil says they reached an agreement with police over their participation in the Parade after collaboration with members of the group Black Lives Matter and the L-G-B-T-Q community. The Parade will be held August 5th. Officers will have the option of wearing their uniforms or not.

North River Road fire plea

The people that run a waste transfer station and a debris disposal site, have pleaded not guilty to charges laid under the Environment Act.

A fire erupted at that North River Road site in March of 2016, and burned for several days.

The apparent cause of the blaze was spontaneous combustion.

Derrick and Barbara Shaffer are facing 20 charges.
