NS canine hero

An 89 year old Baddeck is crediting an observant teen and his dog for saving his life.

Lloyd Stone is still recovering in hosopital after the incident in March.  He was cross-ciountry skiing near Big Baddeck Road and slipped.  He crushed his hip and couldn’t get up.  He was laying there in the woods for about three hours when he saw a light and then felt a dog licking his face.

’17 year old Calvin Kuchta was driving home that night when he spotted Stone’s car parked by the road and thought he better check it out as he knew Stone and thought it was weird he was out in the dark.  Then Arik, a retired RCMP dog; found Stone and he was rescued.

Maritime Link update

The 170km subsea cable part of the Maritime Link is now resting on the bottom of Cabot Strait.

The cable is the first of two to be laid between Point Aconi and Cap Ray.  They will begin laying the second one next month.

The big wires will allow Newfoundland and Labrador to supply electricity to Nova Scotia from Muskrat Falls which is still under construction, but Emera hopes to have power flowing through the cable before the end of the year.
