Navy Ships Depart Halifax for Africa

Two Canadian Navy ships set sail from Halifax yesterday en route to the west coast of Africa. The H-M-C-S Moncton and H-M-C-S Summerside are heading to the Gulf of Guinea to take part in a training event led by the US Navy. The ships will be visiting ports in the Canary Islands, Senegal, Sierra Leone, Liberia and Cote d’Ivoire.

NS Prosecutors Told to Offer Quick Plea Bargains

Prosecutors in the province are being encouraged to offer early plea bargains. Nova Scotia’s top judge is asking criminal lawyers to expedite the plea bargain process in an attempt to meet Supreme Court of Canada demands for speedier trials. Chief Judge Pamela Williams has told lawyers to swiftly resolve ‘relatively straightforward matters’ and has raised the possibility that it could extend to more serious offences.
