Flames destroyed a popular farm store in Cape Breton early yesterday morning.
The store at Eyking Farms in Millville was reported around 2:30am by a passerby. The store is a total loss. The cause of the fire is under investigation. Nobody was hurt.
The store and processing facility was attached to several greenhouses, two of which were also damaged. Large oil and propane tanks inside and outside the building fueled the flames and a lack of water hindered the fire fighting efforts.
A sentencing hearing will be held today for an Angel of Death in Ontario.
Family members of some of the victims of nurse Elizabeth Wettlaufer are expected to give victim impact statements. She murdered eight patients in her care. Both the crown and defence are recommending life sentences with no parole for 25 years on the eight counts to run concurrently. Wettlaufer said she believed she was acting as an instrument of God when she gave high doses of insulin to 14 patients…6 survived.
