In Q-League hockey…the Mooseheads lost a 4-3 shootout to Chicoutimi at Scotiabank centre.

NHL action saw the Rangers beat the Leafs 5-2.  The Flames lost 4-3 to the Predators. Senators blanked the Blue Jackets 2-0.

NBL….Hurricanes beat the Miracles 113-108 at the Coliseum.

Eugenie Bouchard is out at the Australian Open losing her third round match to American Coco Vandeweghe.

NS high school hockey replacement league debuts

The new Nova Scotia Midget X Winter Hockey League debuts this week.  It’s four regional leagues with 33 teams, launched by Hockey Nova Scotia as an alternative to high school players who are off the ice due to the teachers’ work-to-rule job action.  Teams will play an abbreviated schedule of 10-12 regular season games.
