Fish kill update

A federal scientist says they still don’t know what killed all the sea life in St. Mary’s Bay.

Alain Vezina at DFO says the fish kill may have been caused by a confluence of events including fish behaviour, weather and ecological factors like predators. They call it a small localized event…and that pollution, pesticides and naturally occurring toxins have been ruled out. DFO continues to monitor the area but they believe the fish kill is mostly over now.

Animal cruelty

A Windsor woman has been banned from owning animals for five years. Charlene Lucas was also fined $150.

The SPCA charged Lucas after officials found her dog’s broken leg had not been treated. The dog was unable to walk on the broken leg last summer.

Joanne Landsburg, chief inspector for the agency, was disappointed with the sentence saying the ownership prohibition should have been longer.
