Salmon Collaboration Receives 4.7 Million in Funding

An effort to bring all parties together to save wild atlantic Salmon in New Brunswick is receiving 4.7 million-dollars in federal and provincial funding. The Collaboration of Atlantic Salmon Tomorrow, or CAST, brings together industry, environmental organizations and scientists to try and study and save salmon populations. The 4.7 million in funding announced on Saturday in Miramichi will goes toward projects such as tracking salmon ocean migration, predator monitoring, thermal river imaging and capturing young salmon smolt that will be released back into the rivers once they mature and are ready to spawn.

Virus Closes Moncton Doggy Daycare Facility

A virus has forced the closure of Moncton area Doggy Daycare facility. CTV is reporting that the highly contagious virus Bordetella, more commonly known as kennel cough, has forced Pawsitive Dog Daycare to close temporarily after 45 dogs at the facility contracted the virus. Dogs with the virus develop a dry hacking cough as well as other symptoms including runny eyes and nose, fatigue and fever. The virus does not pose a threat to humans. Pawsitive Daycare is being sanitized and cleaned over the weekend and is expected to reopen on Monday.
