The New Brunswick Teachers’ Federation has ratified a five-year agreement with the province. It includes a research initiative that’ll extend teaching time for certain kindergarten-grade 2 students by an hour a day starting in September 2018. Annual 1% wage increases are also part of the deal, as are 250 new teachers.

NB unemployment down a bit in March
New Brunswick’s unemployment rate went down a bit in March. Stats Can has it at 8.4%, from 8.9% in February. The province is ahead of Nova Scotia at 8.6% unemployment, PEI at 10.1%, and Newfoundland and Labrador at 14.9%. The national number is 6.7%.
