Flood Watch

The New Brunswick Emergency Measures Organization says water levels have surpassed flood stage in some parts of the province.

Spokesman Robert Duguay says water levels on the Saint John River in the Fredericton area peaked just above flood stage Thursday night.

Duguay says he expects water levels will start to slowly fall over the coming days.

He says the only report of property damage has been in the Saint-Leonard area of northwestern New Brunswick, where an ice jam caused one basement to flood earlier this week.

Memorial Service

A memorial service is planned for today to pay tribute to a family of four killed in a fire earlier this week in New Brunswick.

The province’s fire marshal has confirmed that a mother and her three adult sons were killed by smoke inhalation after their old home in St. George caught fire on Tuesday.

The fire marshal’s office says the blaze was not considered suspicious, but the exact cause remains undetermined.

The fire marshal’s office is asking members of the public to come forward if they have any information about what happened inside the home on South Street.
