A couple watched their wedding limo go up in flames in downtown Halifax on Saturday. Police say the newly married couple and the entire wedding party had stopped at the city’s Public Gardens for pictures when their limo burst into flames around 2pm. Fortunately the limo was empty at the time and all that was lost was the couple’s wedding certificate. With no way to get to the reception, Halifax police stepped in and gave the wedding party a police escort. All arrived safely at the reception in a pair of police cruisers.

The province’s French language school board has voted to close four of its schools in southwestern Nova Scotia. At a meeting on Saturday morning the Conseil Scolaire Acadien Provincial passed motions to go ahead with the closure of the four elementary schools in the Municipality of the District of Clare. École Saint-Albert in Salmon River and École Jean-Marie-Gay Saulnierville will close after the next school year in July of 2018. École Joseph-Dugas in Church Point and École Stella-Maris in Meteghan will close in 2022. The french language school board says the focus will be on building a new centrally located elementary school to replace the four that are closing.
