Gaming industry profits up

Gaming industry profits are up 2.3% in Nova Scotia.  A new government report says the Provincial Lotteries and Casino Corporation paid it $144.6 million in 2016-17, up from $141.4 million the previous fiscal year.  $6.6 million is being put into prevention, education and treatment of problem gambling.

Former MP Dianne Brushett passes away

Former Cumberland-Colchester MP Dianne Brushett has died.  The 74-year-old Liberal was elected in 1993, defeating then-Tory Bill Casey.  She lost to Casey in 1997, and two times after that.  Brushett served on several committees during her four years in Parliament.
