NS Municipal Expenses at a strip club

Municipal Affairs Minister Zach Churchill says taxpayers won’t be paying for alcohol expensed by councillors and municipal officials.

Churchill says a new bill will be introduced to bring the expense rules for municipalities in line with those for provincial politicians.  This comes after the scandal in Richmond County heavily criticized by the Ombudsman.  Among expense claims were thousands of dollars spent on alcohol and $582 for visits to two Texas strip clubs.

NS electoral boundaries

Premier Stephen McNeil says there is no question an election would be legitimate if it’s held with the current electoral boundaries.

The opposition parties have threatened to go to court if McNeil calls the vote before Acadian riding boundaries are changed as per a court order.

McNeil said yesterday the government and the Acadian federation are discussing terms of reference for a new boundary review but there’s no guarantee that ridings will be redrawn before he calls the election.
