In Cape Breton, there were 1138 consumer insolvencies filed in 2016 compared to 837 filed in 2015 – a 36% increase year over year. There was a 56% spike in bankruptcies year over year and 12% spike in consumer proposals. In Nova Scotia, consumer insolvencies were up 13% year over year in the province.

Lunenburg Academy
The Town of Lunenburg is getting $1 million in provincial funding to help revitalize and maintain Lunenburg Academy. The venue is a provincial Heritage Property and National Historic Site, and the money will help restore and turn it into a community hub. $45,000 is also going towards the Lunenburg Academy of Music Performance.
