Yarmouth fire fighters hindered by crowds

An unoccupied home was destroyed by flames in Yarmouth last night, but fire fighers managed to save nearby houses despite gawking crowds getting in the way.

Yarmouth Fire Chief John Verrall told The Vanguard amazing fire fighting saved the buildings because his crews had trouble getting to the fire because of cars parked along the street by onlookers.  His trucks couldn’t get to hydrants.  Cars ran over hoses.  Verrall said people have to stay away from fire scenes.  Nobody was hurt.

NS assited-death numbers

67 people in the province have sought a medically assisted death since new legislation was passed in Ottawa, but less than half the requests were granted.

The Health Authority says 31 people received medical help to kill themselves between June 17th and March 31st, but others were denied for failure to meet criteria; withdrawal of the request by the patient, and some applications are still moving through the system.
