Search Continues for Missing Cape Breton Fisherman

Advanced sonar equipment and technical personnel have been sent from Halifax to aid in the search for a 56-year-old man who fell overboard Monday while fishing on Cape Breton’s Mira River. Cape Breton Regional Police divers, fire department water rescue personnel and several local boats have been searching the river in the Albert Bridge area, where the man’s boat was found. The missing man is Murray Francis Reid, who is known to be an avid fisherman and sportsman.

Five Sailors in Transatlantic Race Rescued

Crews from three boats taking part in a transatlantic race from England to Rhode Island were rescued on Saturday. Five sailboats in all were damaged by a storm on Friday but two were able to recover. The Canadian response included two planes from 14 Wing Greenwood, a Canadian Coast Guard vessel, Royal Canadian Navy vessels and a cormorant helicopter. The crew of one boat in distress was picked up by the Queen Mary 2 cruise Ship en route to Halifax. Five people in all had to be rescued from their ailing vessels.
